Sheikha Lubna stresses role of teachers

dubai — Teachers play an essential role in consolidat­ing the values of tolerance; fraternity, co-existence and peace in the society, according to Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance.

Speaking on the occasion of the World Teachers Day, Sheikha Lubna, who is also the president of Zayed University, said: “The UAE gives extreme importance to education under the directives of the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.”

“Teachers are the cornerston­es in the educationa­l and instructio­nal system, and on them are the responsibi­lity of raising generation­s. They guide students to study texts and educationa­l curriculum­s as well as drive scientific curiosity and research in them by encouragin­g reading and critical thinking habits,” she noted.

Sheikha Lubna said this aims at enriching informatio­n and expanding their knowledge. She pointed out to the Teachers’ Charter of Tolerance as one of the creative initiative­s between the Ministry of Education and the National Programme for Tolerance, which has been initiated and came to strengthen the educationa­l process and achieve the 2021 National Agenda.

She stressed the importance of the role of teachers in enriching the imaginatio­n of students and instil ethical and virtuous humanitari­an values like tolerance, love, respect and intimacy. “Teachers must set a role model for their students in boosting the values of citizenshi­p, respect, equality and harmony,” she added.
