Ministry unveils Sharjah-Dhaid road development project
ras al khaimah — In a bid to boost the performance of federal roads, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development will develop the SharjahDhaid Road to Masafi area.
“The development works will begin from the Intersection-5 and will cover 65km,” according to Yusuf Abdullah, manager of project planning department at the ministry. “The development works are slated to kick off by the end of 2018.
“The road development will provide more space for light vehicles. It is one of the major roads that connect the cities of the northern coast with those of the central region and eastern coast,” he added. “Up to 30 per cent of the vehicles on the road are heavy trucks.”
The ministry is working to boost the performance of the road and its capacity, he explained. “More lanes and pedestrian bridges are to be added to the road.”
The road will have more intersections and heavy trucks rest areas, Abdullah said. “One lane will be added in each direction from Intersection-5 to Intersection-9. This batch of the roads, which ends at the entrance of Al Dhaid city extends over 30km.”
The intersections No-5, 6, and 8 are also to be developed, he said.
Abdullah said the project will provide ample space for 40,000 light cars and 10,000 trucks in each direction on a daily basis. “The traffic accidents will diminish by half.”
