abu dhabi — Allowing visitors to enjoy the African wildlife, five new African lion cubs — three males and two females — were welcomed by the Al Ain Zoo recently.

A competition has been launched through the Al Ain Zoo’s official website to suggest new names for the cubs, also offering a chance to win valuable prizes and services. The number of lions at the Al Ain Zoo after the new births is 27 and spread between the Safari and the Big Cat Oasis. Breeding programmes are put in place to care and protect them and to ensure they are in good health and provide the visitors with unique experiences.

Omar Al Blooshi, director of marketing and communications, said: “Visitors can now see our African cubs inside the zoo in their own exhibits. Al Ain Safari is a family destination that has a unique

Our aim is to conserve and protect endangered species and provide a natural habitat.” The competition comes within the zoo’s concern to promote community participation and public interaction in wildlife conservation programmes. It had already launched naming other species earlier, including zebras, white-handed gibbons, giraffes, rhinos, hippos and many others, and visitors showed great responses to this initiative.
