Al Wahda impress at Al Ain jiu-jitsu

abu dhabi — Al Wahda Club took top honours with 781 points after winning 11 gold, 13 sliver, and 13 bronze medals at the Al Ain Internatio­nal U18 Jiu-Jitsu Championsh­ip which concluded on Saturday.

The championsh­ip saw the participat­ion of over 11 countries. The second day saw strong matches among 715 young players from different nationalit­ies, who presented high standards of skills and techniques in various weight categories. Ajyal Academy came second with 395 points via five gold, eight silver, and seven bronze medals and AL Jazeera finished third on 373 points with eight gold, four silver, and four bronze. With 340 points, Al Nasr Academy took fourth spot after a haul of six gold, three silver, and nine bronze medals.

Hamed Al Hanaee, gold medalist from Montenegro, was a star attraction and claimed the gold to drive home his superiorit­y. “I played today on behalf of Al Wahda Club in the 84 kg category and I would like to say that all the athletes here in Al Ain that I have played against have challenged me,” he said.

sports. Organizing this tournament, which is overseen by the UAE Jiu-jitsu Federation, supports the federation’s strategy to enhance the presence of this sport and to motivate society to adopt it as a lifelong lifestyle.”

Yousuf Mohammed Al Bolooshi, director of the Technical Department at the Emirates Federation of Jujitsu, said that the success of the Al Ain championsh­ip comes as a result of strong efforts to promote this remarkable game. “The sport is deeply rooted in the UAE, and the internatio­nal ranking system has become an excellent motivation for our players to enhance quality and efficiency.”

Meanwhile, the UAEJJF is preparing for the Al Ain Internatio­nal Pro Jiu-Jitsu Championsh­ip to be held on October 20 and 21. The event calendar for the month of November includes three championsh­ip events: the Mother of the Nation Jiu-Jitsu Championsh­ip — second round will be held November 3; the President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup — second round will be held for UAE clubs on November 4; and the Al Shaheed Jiu-Jitsu Championsh­ip will be held November 24 and 25.
