First community charity park coming up in Dubai
dubai — Residents of the UAE can now donate palm trees from their homes and farms to build a charity dates park in Dubai. The Dubai Municipality has started the implementation of the Dh10 million Charity Oasis, which is the first community charity park in the world.
The returns from the park will be distributed to the needy. The move is in line with the UAE marking 2017 as the Year of Giving.
Hussain Nasser Lootah, directorgeneral of the Dubai Municipality, said: “This will be the first charity park in the world and will be a sustainable endowment in the name of the UAE community.”
A working team has been set up to complete the necessary infrastructure work. “We will then open the field for community members to participate collectively by donating the finest palm trees from their homes and farms to create this innovative endowment that will be on behalf of the UAE community,” Lootah added.
The project aims to open the doors of sustainable charity for all members of the community based on the endowment of palm trees, which is one of the well-established societal practices that serve charity, the oldest endowment deed, which is more than 125 years old. The new park revives the endowment of palm trees but with a collective concept that allows the charity of all members of the society.
The park is located on a 15-hectare plot next to Mushrif Park in Dubai and is expected to produce 150 tonnes of dates annually. Dubai Municipality will announce the opening of donations of palm trees to the park as soon as the infrastructure is completed. It will also announce the requirements in each palm tree to ensure the quality of production. The donor must contact the Municipality’s Call Center on 800900 and submit a request specifying the required data (location/ number/product/telephone).
