Manager threatens to kill woman if she marries

dubai — A manager, who allegedly threatened to kill his countrywoman and her family if she got married to another man, faced charges in court on Sunday.

According to public prosecution records, the 35-year-old Indian manager threatened the complainant that her mother would be the first ‘victim’ of her marriage or engagement to another man.

“He said he would start with my mother, then my family members and I would be responsible for that. He said he would then kill me if I got married or engaged to another man,” the 30-year-old Indian woman said in her complaint at Al Rashidiya police station.

He denied in the Court of First Instance charges of blackmail, making criminal threats and using the Internet to verbally abuse and threaten the complainant. He allegedly made the insults and threats through WhatsApp and emails.

“The accused started harassing me after I sent him my resume on LinkedIn to help me find a job about six months prior to the complaint. He claimed he was specialised in recruitment consultation and services. But he kept saying he liked me and wanted to marry me,” the complainant, who later found a job as a human resource assistant manager, said.

However, he did not take no for an answer, and “kept watching and stalking me”, she told the prosecutor. “He would ring me from a different number every time. He would threaten me on WhatsApp or by calls and mails.”

She had to complain against him on September 7 after he showed up outside at her workplace. “I got very scared,” she said.

He allegedly told her that the “worst was yet to come” and that he would easily find her home address. He also asked her to unblock his calls.

During the police investigation, the defendant confessed he threatened and insulted the complainant. The messages he sent to the complainant were used by the investigating prosecutor as evidence.

The accused has been placed in detention.

The trial will resume on November 14.
