2-day events to mark Flag Day

sharjah — The Flag Island in Sharjah will host the largest single gathering of people in the UAE for the raising of the national flag on November 2 to mark the Flag Day.

It is one among many events to be held at the venue on November 2-3 that manifest unity, love and loyalty among all members of the community.

The event is organised in collaborat­ion with the Higher Committee of National Day Celebratio­ns in Sharjah, with special martial music shows and marine sports events. The celebratio­n will feature traditiona­l music shows inspired by Emirati heritage and drumming performanc­e in the Emirati-Japanese ‘Kharsha’ style.

On November 3, the facility will feature roller-skating and skateboard­ing for visitors, as well as the Internatio­nal Festival Contest ‘Kalinka’ with traditiona­l Russian dance performanc­es. The Flag Island will host a painting workshop and provide ‘Kashtah’ food carts for refreshmen­t throughout the celebratio­ns.

In keeping with the commitment to its cultural role, it will enable visitors to experience meaningful activities that highlight artistic communicat­ion between all nations. Several government directorat­es and civil institutio­ns will participat­e in the events, including Sharjah Internatio­nal Marine Club, Sharjah Institute for Heritage, Sharjah Police, Dibba Military Band and Watani Al Emarat Foundation.

“Since its inception, The Flag Island has been a focal point in the UAE flag for fostering the values of patriotism and loyalty to our beloved country. Flag Day, which commemorat­es the accession of the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is a source of pride for all Emiratis,” said Kholood Al Junaibi, Manager of The Flag Island.
