Rangoli season closes in style

dubai — The sixth season of the all UAE Interschoo­l Team Competitio­n Rangoli Gulf came to a close in a star-studded event in GEMS Modern Academy auditorium. Popular Indian playback singer KS Chithra, the chief guest for the event, spoke about how important it is to nurture arts from a very young age. She stressed on the importance of perseveran­ce and practice to become the best. Chithra also paid a musical tribute to the great legend Lata Mangeshkar with her melodious song “Aapki nazarone samjha”.

The winners of Rangoli Gulf Season Six were GEMS Our Own English High School Sharjah (Boys) and the second place went to Abu Dhabi Indian School and the third prize awarded to newcomers to the competitio­n Abu Dhabi Indian School Al Wathba.

The best music team for Season Six was bagged by the GEMS Our Own English High School Sharjah (Boys) for their wonderful acapellas. The award for the best dance team was awarded to Abu Dhabi Indian School while the best school choice team was shared by JSS Private School Dubai and GEMS Our Own English High School (Girls) Al Warqaa.

Sir Christophe­r Stone, chief education officer of GEMS Education, said that such cultural exchanges will offer a unique opportunit­y to students from all nationalit­ies to appreciate each other’s art forms, as it’s important to remember one’s roots and the cultural heritage one was born into.

Dr J Alexander, chairman of Symphony TV, said that Rangoli Gulf has grown in participat­ion, popularity and television viewership among school children and viewers of both Zee TV and E-Vision’s E-Masala channel.

Krishna Kumar, director of Rangoli Gulf programme and managing director of Symphony TV, said: “The theme of Rangoli is ‘edutainmen­t’ through team spirit.”
