UAE boys crash to another defeat

-

dubai — The UAE under-19 boys crashed to their second heavy defeat when Pakistan outplayed them by 226 runs in Malaysia on Sunday.

Opting to bat, Pakistan colts were bowled out for 299 runs in 47.1 overs. Mohammed Taha missed a century by six runs but two half centuries by Mohammed Arif (56) and Abdullah Shafique (56) ensured that Pakistan piled up a healthy total.

Arif and Shafique got together after an early dismissal of opener Mohammed Mohsin before Arif was caught by Rahul Neelesh off Kartik Palaniappan, who also accounted for Shafique when Niel Rohan pouched a catch. Even as wickets fell at the other end, Taha was merciless, belting boundaries at will.

The UAE fell like a pack of cards and were eventually bowled out for 73 with Khan and Mohammed Musa equally sharing six wickets between them.

The UAE boys had lost their first match to Sri Lanka.

In another match of the day, Nepal caused biggest upset of the tournament when they stunned India by 19 runs. After being put into bat, Nepal rode on a solid knock of 88 by Dipendra Singh Airee to score 185 in 50 overs. For Indian under-19 team that total didn’t look difficult as their openers put up 65 in 11 overs. They were cruising until man-of-the-match Airee came back to torment them. After shining with bat, he took four wickets to trigger a collapse as Indians colts fell 19 runs short of the target after being in a position of strength.
