Proceeds from art sales donated to refugee kids

sharjah — During its participat­ion at the recently concluded Abu Dhabi Art 2017, the Sharjah Children Biennial (SCB) sold 38 artworks that were part of the its fifth edition. The proceeds from the artwork sales will go to support the Sharjahbas­ed non-profit organisati­on, The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF).

The organising committee of the SCB’s fifth edition displayed a total of 64 artworks for sale at Abu Dhabi Art 2017, of which 15 were physically displayed at the exhibit and 49 were available for viewing on smart tablets.

Reem BinKaram, president of the SCB’s fifth edition, said: “Each year, the SCB aims to give back to the community by supporting a humanitari­an cause, in alignment with the values of giving and solidarity fostered by the wise leadership of the UAE.

“The fourth edition’s sales proceeds covered the cost of cancer treatment of a child. In this edition, we have collaborat­ed with The Big Heart Foundation to support refugee children, by catering to some of their basic needs in the hope that it will help alleviate their sufferings and bring them joy.”

The artworks were selected from a total of 376. Themed ‘A World as Big as Your Imaginatio­n’, it took place from January 15 to February 15. The art was curated under three categories: Architectu­re Design, Environmen­t, and Fantasy and Reality.

Curator of the SCB’s fifth edition, Dana Al Mazrouei, said: “The selected artworks were characteri­sed by a high level of nuance and artistry. We selected 64 artworks from the edition’s collection to be showcased at Abu Dhabi Art 2017, which received much admiration from the fair’s visitors. In the coming weeks we will display more artworks for sale at various locations in Sharjah and Dubai, as a continuati­on of the fifth SCB’s charitable drive.”

Young visitors to the SCB stand at Abu Dhabi Art 2017 had the opportunit­y to express their creativity on a LEGO wall. With various pieces of LEGO, children created a myriad of structures, from monuments to abstract shapes – each representa­tive of the child’s individual­ity and sources of inspiratio­n.
