Role of technology in reducing food poisoning
Basheer Hassan Yousuf, food safety specialist at DM, said the app will help track food poisoning outbreaks as it keeps record of food items, helping the civic body “predict, protect and prevent.”
“If a food poisoning case happened, it will be easier to track the item that caused it, because everything from temperature control to bacteria is already registered in the system,” said Yousuf.
“Whole genome sequencing, blockchain technology and modern methods input in the programme predicts what might happen,” said Yousuf.
Through the smart system, food establishments will also be able to get the municipality’s approval on any nutritional claims, before adding the Healthy Food Logo on each item in the menu.
Earlier, DM launched the logo to certify that a specific restaurant meal complies with the health requirements of offering a balanced diet, paying special focus to limited calories and limited use of salt and saturated fats.
Under the theme “Predict … Prevent … Protect”, the three-day conference will discuss trending technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, IoT (Internet of Things) Devices and their uses in food safety.. The conference will focus on the application of forecasting, tracking and propreventive measures that benefit from food safety techniques in the light of the enormous information revolution.
