Al Jalila Children’s Hospital marks its first anniversary
— Since its inauguration in November 2016, Al Jalila’s Children Hospital has received an estimated 18,889 outpatient and ER visits, Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said in a tweet on Wednesday.
“1,270 inpatients and 409 successful surgeries, out of which 99 were heart surgeries and catherisations in addition to 445 dialysis sessions, have been performed,” the tweet said.
To celebrate the first birthday of their daughter Al Jalila on December 2, 2008, Sheikh Mohammed ordered the building of the first children’s hospital in the UAE and inaugurated the hospital just a month short of her ninth birthday in November last year. With 24 clinics under one roof and more than 70,000 outpatients expected per year, the hospital is located in Zabeel 1.
Dr Moza Al Zaabi, CEO of Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital told Khaleej Times in an earlier interview what the hospital means to the children in the UAE, what it offers and what the future plans are.
Five centres are operational, including the Heart Centre, Kidney Centre, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Centre, Neurosciences Centre, Critical Care Centre. “The Cancer and Blood Disorders Centre is scheduled to open towards the end of 2017,” she said.
The hospital has 600 people on the payroll — doctors, nurses, allied healthcare professionals, as well as administration and finance staff. For those coming from abroad, the hospital provides tertiary care of the highest standards.
The Smart hospital incorporates advanced medical equipment and communications technology that enables patients to be in direct communication with their families, anywhere in the world, at all times from their single patient-room beds.
