Tough races a learning process, says Bottas

abu dhabi — It has been yet another incredible year for Mercedes and it hasn’t got over as Valtteri Bottas takes to Yas Marina Circuit with a chance to steal second spot from Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. And Bottas is all geared up for the final act.

Bottas had two wins and 12 podium finishes this season. And taking a check at his performanc­es at a press conference in Abu Dhabi, Bottas said: “I think the balance sheet is a bit up-anddown. There were many good moments and performanc­es but many disappoint­ments as well. The main thing for me is the amount I’ve been able to learn. The amount I’ve been able to grow as a driver and things I can take for the future. That’s what matters. Lewis Hamilton won the title, as my team mate, so we had a car to do it and he beat me this year. So, I’ve learnt a lot and that’s why I’m really looking ahead.”

Finn said: “I’ve been through some of those things already quite many times. This sport is all about details, and I’ve learnt a lot from those tough races and just need more consistenc­y in different circumstan­ces, different conditions and I know by working hard, I can do it.”

Bottas noted the tough races in the past seasons have made his a better racer and that he is gungho about future.

“I took more than 80 races to achieve my first win. It was a special moment but also one that makes you more hungry for the future. I think those difficult races have been the races where I have been able to learn the most so I feel this season in general has given me a lot to work on and that’s always positive. I’m always willing to improve and try be a better person as a driver. That’s why, like I said, I can’t wait for the future.”
