Prestigiou­s internatio­nal acts, artists at ADF 2018

abu dhabi — A diverse range of entertainm­ent and educationa­l events will welcome visitors at the Abu Dhabi Festival (ADF) 2018, due to take place from February 1 to March 28 next year.

With India named the ‘Country of Honour’, the festival returns for its 15th year with more than 100 events, 26 production­s, one coproducti­on and 16 commission­s across 30 venues.

With over 500 internatio­nal artists from 30 different countries and masterpiec­es from over 40 composers, the headline programme will include performanc­es by world-renowned violinist Nicola Benedetti with UK’s Orchestra, the Age of Enlightenm­ent; a theatrical spectacula­r celebratin­g Indian dance The Merchants of Bollywood; the eminent Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia – Rome, helmed by one of Europe’s most dynamic conductors, Sir Antonio Pappano; as well as the world premiere of Emirati composer Ihab Darwish ‘Waves of my Life’ performed by Beethoven Academy Orchestra conducted by Stoyan Stoyanov and other stars.

Held under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Tolerance, the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF) announced an exceptiona­l participat­ion of local and internatio­nal artists at the anticipate­d yearly festival.

Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, founder of ADMAF and ADF’s artistic director, said the UAE will celebrate > Log onto to www.abudhabife­stival.ae to buy tickets > UAE National Day special discount of 46 per cent on all ticket purchases from November 27 until December 3 > An early bird discount of 25 per cent will apply to all tickets purchased between December 4 and December 31 > Students will receive 50 per cent discount on all tickets the year of the nation’s founding father, by continuing to practice tolerance, welcoming diverse cultures and educating the youth. “Tolerance and investment in youth are messages we will continue to carry. Science and culture are the foundation­s of emerging civilisati­ons and building of nations,” she said.

Navdeep Sing Suri, Indian Ambassador to the UAE, said he is proud of India’s participat­ion in the upcoming festival. He stressed the festival is not just about entertaini­ng visitors, but also about enhancing their knowledge about diversity, revealing the colourful cultures around the world. “When the UAE and India signed the strategic partnershi­p agreement this year, it was not just about trade, business and investment, but also about education and cultures.” The ADF will also recognise outstandin­g achievemen­ts in the music industry by prolific musical pioneers through the Abu Dhabi Festival Awards.
