dubai — A receptionist, who allegedly resisted detention and caused handcuff to hit a woman police officer’s head, has gone on trial.

The 25-year-old Moroccan woman is accused of physically assaulting two on-duty cops as they tried to detain her on October 4.

She has been charged in the Court of First Instance with physical assault and issuing threats against police officers.

The accused allegedly threatened the women cops and their colleagues at Al Qusais police station that she had connections in Abu Dhabi and “the police officers will see…”

“I was on duty at 3pm at the police station when I was informed about the accused, who had just been brought from the General Directorate of Criminal Evidence and was resisting cops trying to make her enter the centre’s detention,” said the 34-year-old police sergeant who was assaulted by the accused.

“I went with a colleague to where she was — near the police vehicle. She was sitting on the floor and yelling. I tried to talk her...”Another policewoman was called and as we were trying to handcuff her, she resisted fiercely and the handcuff hit me on the head.”

The police sergeant told the prosecutor that she was left with head bruises, arm and leg pain.

It was not clear from the public prosecution records the charge the receptionist had been brought on to the police detention centre.

The trial will continue on December 17.
