UAE marks a minute of silence
abu dhabi — The UAE nationals and residents observed one minute of silence on Thursday to mark Commemoration Day (Martyrs’ Day) in recognition of the sacrifice of the martyrs.
In Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, prayed to the Almighty to have mercy upon the martyrs of the nation and to rest their souls in eternal peace. Sheikh Mohamed was accompanied by Emirati citizens and expatriate residents. “All of us today, across the nation, stand with pride, as we honour our heroic martyrs. Our hearts beat with them and with their sacrifices and selfless acts. They will never leave us, but will be ingrained in our memories, and in every house, and every area of our good land,” Sheikh Mohamed said.
“As we stand here, we feel proud of the sacrifices of our heroic martyrs. We recall their heroic deeds, which represent a role model and value for the coming generation, to stimulate them and preserve the legacy of the martyrs, and continue and follow their march,” he added.
Among those who attended the event were Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler`s representative; Lt-Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior; Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs; Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Mohammed bin Ahmad Al Bawardi, Minister of State for Defence Affairs; and several top commanders of the UAE Armed Forces, along with representatives from the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Interior, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, held a minute of condolences to the martyrs of the noble nation on the occasion of the commemoration of the martyrdom of the nation’s martyrs.
He met with Sheikh Mohammed Al-Shaibani, director-general of the Ruler of Dubai, Lt-Gen Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, deputy chief of police and general security in Dubai, and Maj-Gen Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, commander-in-chief of Dubai. Ahmed bin Humaidan, deputy director-general of the Diwan, Abdullah Al Busti, Secretary General of the Executive Council of Dubai, and a number of officials who went to pray.
After standing for the “Duaa minute”, Sheikh Hamdan raised the flag of the UAE high on a flagpole in the ruler’s office, and then a group of honor guards saluted and played the music with national peace.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum expressed his pride for the youth of the nation who sacrificed their lives for the sake of Allah and the homeland and raised the banner of truth and justice. He considered that this day will remain engraved in the minds of generations.
In all the other emirates, the rulers and crown princes along with the senior officials and sheikhs led the one minute silence to mark the Commemoration Day.
