Emirati dies after being run over by car in RAK

ras al khaimah — A 35-yearold Emirati man succumbed to injuries he sustained after a car ran over him on a road at Khuzam district in Ras Al Khaimah.

The victim, identified as Ali Ahmed Al Shehi, was a manager at a branch of Dubai Islamic Bank in the northern emirate.

Ali was returning to work after performing the Isha prayer at the Brosli mosque opposite his office, his brother Mohammed said.

He was planning to fly to Saudi Arabia for performing Umrah the same day, he added. “My brother leaves behind two sons – aged six and eight. He was expecting a baby in a few days.”

Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, director general of the central operations department, RAK Police, said the accident took place at 7.15pm.

“Two vehicles rammed into each other at the arterial Sheikh Mohammed Bin Salem Road. One of the two drivers lost control over the vehicle due to the impact of the collision and veered off the road.”

The vehicle skidded towards the road middle island where the victim was crossing, he added.

“The car first hit one of the trees on the road, and then ran over the victim who suffered serious injuries.”

On being alerted of the collision, the central operations room of the RAK Police dispatched traffic police, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site immediatel­y.
