Lahore sit-in called off after protesters reach deal with Punjab govt

lahore — Tehreek-i-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA), which had been holding a sit-in outside the Punjab Assembly on The Mall since November 25, concluded their protest around midnight on Friday.

TLYRA leader Dr Ashraf Asif Jalali announced a decision in this regard after holding successful talks with a three-member committee of the Punjab government.

The two sides agreed that the federal government will act upon the points agreed upon between the faction and the government in Islamabad a month ago.

According to Dr Ashraf Jalali, the sit-in has been concluded on the basis of an agreement reached with government representa­tives. The salient features of the agreement are as follows;

a) Raja Zafarul Haq’s report would be made public by Dec 20.

b) The 27th November’s agreement between TLYRA and the federal government would be implemente­d.

c) A committee comprising Ulema of all schools of thought would be constitute­d to decide about the number of loud-speakers in mosques.

d) Muttahida Ulema Board, Punjab, would review the educationa­l syllabus pertaining to religious topics/matter.

e) Mufti Abid Jalali would be made member of Punjab Ulema Board.

f) A committee would also be formulated regarding resignatio­n of Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah. — APP
