Inclusive society UAE’s top priority: Minister
dubai — The UAE has placed top priority on the welfare and empowerment of people of determination, for them to have full access to public life, Hessa Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, said on Sunday.
Her statement came as the UAE marked International Day of Disabled Persons, which falls on December 3, every year.
Buhumaid added that the welfare of people of determination is an integral part of the social development approach, envisioned by the UAE leadership.
“A top priority for the National Agenda and UAE Vision 2021, is to promote an inclusive environment that integrates all segments of society, including the people of determination, while preserving the UAE’s unique culture, heritage and traditions and reinforces social and family cohesion,” the minister added.
She also referred to the launch of the creation of the People of Determination Advisory Council as another step to empower this segment and enables them to play an important part in the country’s development. It provides counsel and support to all entities looking to implement the National Policy for the Empowerment of People of Determination.
The policy, launched by the Ministry of Community Development, seeks to remove obstacles that inhibit the full integration of people of determination and their families.
New document reading service
Separately, the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) launched a new service for people of determination with blindness on the occasion. The new service will enable those who are blind to read documents approved by the notary, by publishing them in braille.
Yussuf Saeed Al Abri, undersecretary of ADJD, said this step will promote the department’s values including serving the public and giving equal attention to all categories of users, to achieve its strategic priority of strengthening the efficiency and sustainability of its judiciary operations, as well as to facilitate access to its services.
Al Abri highlighted the department’s desire to continue upgrading and developing its services, to fulfil the needs of customers and effectively contribute to the realisation of the Abu Dhabi Government Vision 2030.
Yousuf Al Hosani, director of the courts and legal support sector at the ADJD, said the new service is part of the department’s ongoing development plan to enhance the quality of services provided to customers and facilitate access to these services. The new facility will enable people of determination to have documents approved by the notary, after reviewing the details of the editorials printed in braille.
Al Hosani stressed that the launch of the new service for the blind is part of a range of relevant services provided by the ADJD, including a guidance and escort service to the department’s branches, as well as prioritising their requests and enquires.
International Day of Disabled Persons aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. —
