50% cut on Dubai traffic fines begins
dubai — The Dubai Police started implementing the 50 per cent reduction in traffic fines and vehicle confiscation fees from Monday evening. The reduced fines can be paid through the police’s electronic systems and regular platforms.
On December 1 —the eve of the UAE National Day — His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, had directed the Ministry of Interior to coordinate with the traffic and licensing departments across the country to slash all traffic fines by 50 per cent, in line with the Year of Giving.
The reduction will be valid for traffic fines issued between January 1 and December 2, 2017, in Dubai. The discounted fines will have to be paid within 90 days starting from December 1, after which the full value of the fines shall be charged.
According to Brigadier Khalid Nasser Abdul Razzaq Al Razouqi of the police’s General Department of Smart Services, the fine amounts will appear automatically reduced starting Monday evening, on the Dubai Police’s smart mobile app, website and other platforms.
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director-general of the traffic department, said he hoped the generous discount announcement would solve the problem of accumulated traffic violations and subsequent non-renewals on many vehicles.
