dubai — Australia’s Celina Yuan said that her putting on the day lined her up for a share of second spot after the first round of the Omega Dubai Ladies Classic on Wednesday.

Yuan, who turned pro earlier this year, came up with a four-under 68 to be tied for second with four others.

Yuan, who idolises Karrie Webb and Annika Sorenstam, had five birdies and if not for a bogey on the par-4 fifth, she would have shared the lead with Thailand’s Supamas Sangchan.

The Sydney resident said that she had learnt from her mistakes at QSchool and that showed on the day.

“I think my putting was pretty decent today compared to my other rounds. Iron play, I only missed three greens, which is okay. Yeah, that’s about it,” Yuan said after her round on Wednesday.

“I didn’t have a practice round. I flew in from Q-School where I played very badly, and I guess I just learned from my mistakes in that tournament and tried to get it right in this one,” she added.

Yuan said that the hard work that she put in as well as the experience gained on the Tour has held her in good stead.

“I think hard work and a lot more experience has helped me here. I just want to play the best I can. I’m not too worried about what number I’m at. Just go as low as possible,” said Yuan, who will most likely be playing on the Symetra Tour.

Meanwhile, Denmark’s Nanna Koerstz Madsen, who too shot a four-under 68, was pleased with her round.

“I’m very happy with the round today. I didn’t hit it very close today or anything. I made some good putts and didn’t make too many mistakes. I’m just happy to finish,” said Madsen.

“I had two bogeys. Missed the green and 3-putted, so yeah that’s two bogeys. I made three birdies,” she added.

Madsen said that the Majlis Course at the Emirates Golf Club was quite a tricky one which tests the players.

“It’s a course where you can hit the driver pretty much everywhere. There are some holes where you can. So, if you can hit a good driver then you are good to go. But there are tricky greens, not too much slopes. I think it is a little tricky,” felt Madsen, whose best finish this season has been tied 14th at the Lalla Meryem Cup.
