‘Teach youngsters about history of Armed Forces’

dubai — His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said the sacrifices and accomplish­ments of the UAE Armed Forces are a source of pride for every Emirati.

“Since its inception, our armed forces have kept pace with global developmen­ts in training and preparatio­n of personnel, who represent the main asset of any defence system. The developmen­t process also included the acquisitio­n of the latest weapons to ensure our armed forces always held the edge in the field,” Sheikh Mohammed said. “It’s our duty to teach the current generation about the glorious history of our Armed Forces not only to instill patriotism in them, but also to make them aware of the history of the nation and the sacrifices made to safeguard its progress.”

Sheikh Mohammed’s remarks came during his visit to an exhibition titled ‘Protectors of the Nation … Sacrifice And Giving’, held at the Etihad Museum in Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed was accompanie­d by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed

bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai. The exhibition was organised by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority in partnershi­p with the UAE Ministry of Defence and the General Command of the UAE Armed Forces.

Sheikh Mohammed toured the exhibition, which traces the history of the UAE Armed Forces. The growth of the UAE Armed Forces parallels the growth of the UAE as a nation starting from the establishm­ent of the Union on December 2, 1971.

The exhibition, which will run for six months, also highlights the diverse contributi­ons of the UAE Armed Forces under the guidance of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the close follow up of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces such as participat­ion in many global relief campaigns and peacekeepi­ng initiative­s.

Sheikh Mohammed also watched a short movie on the developmen­t of the UAE Armed Forces and its participat­ion in UN peacekeepi­ng forces and humanitari­an missions.

Also, present during the visit were Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Group; Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future; Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Bowardi, Minister of State for Defence Affairs; Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr; and Lt. General Mohammed Abdul Rahim Al Ali, assistant under-secretary of the Ministry of Defence apart from senior officials.
