Winners of wildlife photo competitio­n announced

al ain — The top six winners of the sixth edition of ‘Zoography 2017: Through the Lens’ received their prizes worth totalling Dh100,000, according to the organisers Al Ain Zoo.

Profession­al and amateur photograph­ers from inside and outside the UAE competed in the colour and black and white (B/W) lenses categories, aiming to capture the wonders of wildlife.

In the B/W category, Jefferson Turado bagged the first prize, while the second and third went to Jason Gil Burgos and Nishar Nambiyatha­yil Mohamed respective­ly. As for the coloured lens category, the first cash prize went to Lal Nallath, the second to Musallem Al Darei and the third to Mohammed Naif. The other excelling participan­ts who did not make it to the top three were also honoured.

The competitio­n saw a huge participat­ion, with 3,000 photograph submission­s from 576 national and internatio­nal photograph­y enthusiast­s, from the GCC, Europe, East Asia and Africa, in which 734 were submission­s were made in the coloured lens category and 586 in B/W lens.

This year, the competitio­n brought new innovation­s to the table; with all-new photograph­y categories, a new panel of judges and awards.

Firstly, the photograph­y categories focused on the wildlife theme through coloured and B/W lens categories. Second, the panel of judges consisted of three photograph­y enthusiast­s working on Al Ain Zoo’s social media accounts: Abdulla Al Buqaish, Omran Al Shamsi and Badder Al Qasim.

Finally, this year’s cash prizes offered Dh25,000 for the first place, Dh15,000 for second place and Dh10,000 for third, in the categories of coloured and B/W wildlife photograph­y.
