Counterfei­t goods worth Dh8M seized in Ajman

ajman — Over 38,570 counterfei­t products worth Dh8 million have been seized in Ajman. According to the Directorat­e of Control and Consumer Protection of the Department of Economic Developmen­t - Ajman (DED-Ajman), the confiscate­d items were knockoffs of 34 internatio­nal brands.

They were seized during two raids conducted by the Commercial Fraud Department of the DED-Ajman in cooperatio­n with the Ajman Police and a trademarks representa­tive.

“The inspection­s are part of the DED-Ajman’s continuing commitment towards combatting the proliferat­ion of counterfei­t goods. It also complement­s the department’s move to protect local consumers — which is a top priority for the DED-Ajman,” the department said in a Press statement.

Majed Al Suwaidi, director, customer relations department, DEDAjman, said the inspection will continue as part of a broader strategy to seize illegal goods and take legal actions against violators.

“These programmes are in line with the department’s mandate to create a fair investment environmen­t for consumers, which is also seen as an important element in economic growth.”

Al Suwaidi stressed the DEDAjman’s commitment to imposing stiff penalties to reduce or totally stop counterfei­ting and commercial­ly fraudulent activities.
