Counterfeit goods worth Dh8M seized in Ajman
ajman — Over 38,570 counterfeit products worth Dh8 million have been seized in Ajman. According to the Directorate of Control and Consumer Protection of the Department of Economic Development - Ajman (DED-Ajman), the confiscated items were knockoffs of 34 international brands.
They were seized during two raids conducted by the Commercial Fraud Department of the DED-Ajman in cooperation with the Ajman Police and a trademarks representative.
“The inspections are part of the DED-Ajman’s continuing commitment towards combatting the proliferation of counterfeit goods. It also complements the department’s move to protect local consumers — which is a top priority for the DED-Ajman,” the department said in a Press statement.
Majed Al Suwaidi, director, customer relations department, DEDAjman, said the inspection will continue as part of a broader strategy to seize illegal goods and take legal actions against violators.
“These programmes are in line with the department’s mandate to create a fair investment environment for consumers, which is also seen as an important element in economic growth.”
Al Suwaidi stressed the DEDAjman’s commitment to imposing stiff penalties to reduce or totally stop counterfeiting and commercially fraudulent activities.
