Abid stars in NAS win over Jumeirah

dubai — Abid Chaudhury scored a whirlwind 61 from 28 balls to take Nad Al Sheba to victory over Jumeirah Mammoths in the Dubai Cricket Council-organised League of Mammoths tournament at The Sevens ground on Saturday.

Opting to bat first, NAS were in for a surprise when Deepak Patel ripped through the gates of Devrajan Srinivasan and Lucky Abbas, both for naught, by sending their stumps cartwheeling.

At the other end Bobby Suri got the better of Naeem Mohammed (12) and Abhay Chawan (13) to leave NAS tottering at 4 for 55.

However, Qais Farooq (41, 39 balls, one 4) and Yuvraj Kurup (35, 32 balls, one 4) stitched a 64-run partnership to lift NAS camp the spirits.

After Qais and Yuraj fell, Man-of-the-Match Abid Chaudhury, known for his aggressive batting, came to rescue of NAS by clobbering five towering sixes and two fours to push their total to 194 for 7.

Jumeirah made a fight of the target with Manal Siddiqui (40), Sheldon D’Cruz (36), Sujit Salian (27) and Vijay Mehra (22) contributing but in the end they fell short by six runs.

In another match Zabeel Mammoths sailed past Dubai Red Knights by 7 wickets.

Farrukh Mohammed’s half century was the only saving grace in Red Knights’ meagre total of 96 all out as the other nine batsmen failed to get to double figures.

Man-of-the-Match Vinay Tolani (3-15), Nithin Menon (322), Gaurav Rajkumar (2-16) shared the spoils.
