Al Ain top in Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup

abu dhabi — Al Ain topped the third round of the President’s JiuJitsu Cup for the 2017-2018 season at the Shabab Al Ahli Dubai Club on Saturday.

Al Wahda finished second followed by Al Jazira in third place.

The third round competitio­n was divided into three groups: an over 21 men and women, under 20 boys and girls, under 17 boys and girls.

Al Ain club won the third round with 755 points.

When added to its overall points won in the first and second round, Al Ain Club accumulate­d a total of 2,107 points in first place, thanks to exceptiona­l performanc­e of its players during the competitio­n.

Al Wahda came in second place with a total of 1,390 points and Al Jazira in third place with a total of 1,363. “The preparatio­ns for this round in Dubai lasted for two months, to culminate in this worldclass level in accordance with the highest standards and technical equipment,” said Youssef Al Batran, UAEJJF Board Member and the Championsh­ip Director.

“The championsh­ip also won the admiration of all participat­ing clubs and the fans,” he added.

“As the championsh­ip progressed, the participat­ion and popularity increased, reflecting the championsh­ip’s status and its developmen­t in becoming a platform to develop the skills of Jiu-Jitsu champions and prepare them to participat­e in internatio­nal forums,” the Championsh­ip Director pointed out.

“The players are preparing to continue the challenge and build on the total points they achieved during the first three rounds,” the UAEJJF Board Member said.

The fourth round will be held at the Baynounah Education Complex, Al Dhafra in February 2018, while the fifth round will be held at the Mubadala Arena at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi where the top three clubs will be crowned.

Shouq Abdullah Salem Al Jabri of Al Ain Club, who won the gold medal in the 48kg category in the third round, said that women athletes from all clubs showed an extreme level of competitio­n and were very keen to win.

She then confirmed that the her preparatio­ns lasted more than a month and included intensive daily training and thankfully managed to win the gold medal.

Two athletes participat­e from each club in each category, and points accumulate­d by the athletes are added to the club’s tally to determine the winning.
