Suqia board reviews Year of Zayed preparatio­ns

DUBAI — The Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia), under the umbrella of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiative­s (MBRGI), has held its fourth meeting for this year, chaired by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia.

The meeting tackled Suqia’s achievemen­ts and projects, during the fourth quarter of the Year of Giving, preparatio­ns for the Year of Zayed and the second Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award. Suqia oversees the award, which is worth $1 million, and encourages research institutio­ns, individual­s and innovators all over the world to find sustainabl­e and innovative solutions to address the problem of clean water, by using solar power.

“Suqia will continue its developmen­tal initiative­s and projects during the year of Zayed to support the UAE’s efforts in commemorat­ing the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and continue his journey in doing good and lending a helping hand to the needy all over the world. Suqia will continue its initiative­s and sustainabl­e developmen­t projects inside and outside the UAE, to provide potable water to the needy, the disadvanta­ged, and those who are in distress around the world,” said Al Tayer.

Mohammed Abdulkaree­m Al Shamsi, acting executive director of Suqia, discussed Suqia’s key projects, in cooperatio­n with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitari­an Establishm­ent and the Emirates Red Crescent, saying that over 8 million people have benefitted from Suqia’s projects so far.

The meeting also discussed Suqia’s initiative­s to spread awareness among children and the younger generation on water issues and conservati­on of natural resources. The educationa­l programme is organised by the Dubai Electricit­y and Water Authority (Dewa) and Suqia, in collaborat­ion with Surge; a global non-profit organisati­on.
