50% work of Emirates Road in RAK complete
ras al khaimah — The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has completed around 50 per cent of the road development works of the Emirates Road in Ras Al Khaimah.
Ahmed Al Hammadi, manager of the roads department at the ministry, said the road works on Suhaila and Shamal areas are completed.
“These are part of the second phase of the mega project to be completed in the second quarter of 2018.”
The project consists of three lanes in each direction with a middle road island for a fourth lane in the future when needed, he added.
“The major road works will help shift traffic off downtown and this will significantly reduce traffic congestions in the RAK city.”
Two new bridges have been added to the project, he added.
“These two new bridges will help drivers change direction at ease and this will be an advantage for the people staying in the areas adjacent to the road sides.”
Al Hammadi announced that they have finished the development works of two other major roads, which will be officially opened in the beginning of this year. “These include the road extension that connects the Sheikh Khalifa Road in Fujairah with the Khatam Al Milaha Centre and the first phase of E99 Road and the Salma Bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road in Umm Al Quwain.”
The Sheikh Khalifa Road, extending over 4.4km, cost Dh40million, he said. “However, 1.5km has been added to the road to connect the road with the Mohammed Bin Zayed Residential City in Fujairah.”
The road includes two lanes in each direction, a middle road island, a traffic light, a rainwater drainage system and a lighting network, he explained. “The road is being developed as per the latest international standards.”
The estimated cost for the first phase of the Salam Bridge in Umm Al Quwain stands at Dh9.5 million, Al Hammadi said. “The project includes the construction of a bridge instead of the U-turn.”
