92 patrols manage RAK roads during New Year celebrations
ras al khaimah — During the last two days of 2017, 92 traffic and security patrols secured all the roads of the emirate in preparation for the fireworks on Al Marjan Island, said Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police. The New Year celebrations on Al Marjan Island saw 290,000 people from all emirates joining the revelries.
He said the roads of Ras Al Khaimah recorded as many as 244 accidents on December 30 and 31. “None of the accidents, all handled by Saad, were serious, and they were dealt with in a record time so as not to affect the fireworks at Al Marjan Island.”
Brig Abdullah Khamis Al Hadidi, deputy chief commandant of the RAK police, said the central operations room of the RAK Police attended to 1,600 reports in two days. “A total of 244 accidents were reported on December 30 and 31, but none of these were serious.”
Brigadier Abdullah Ali Menakhas, director of the criminal investigations department, RAK Police, said his team was all set to secure the New Year celebrations.
“Not a single security issue was reported in the last two days thanks to the perfect cooperation among all the bodies concerned and the public as well.”
“The New Year celebrations saw the debut of the tourist patrols, the first of their kind in the emirate to secure the tourist sites of the emirate.”
