Rights centre report stresses on achievemen­ts, activities

dubai — The Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancemen­t and the Global Dialogue has achieved significan­t success in hosting diverse activities in 2017, according to its annual report and activities released in Geneva recently.

These achievemen­ts culminated in 2017 by granting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council the status of “Consultati­ve Status” to the Geneva Centre for Human Rights and the Global Dialogue.

The centre has succeeded in consolidat­ing and expanding cooperatio­n with a number of permanent missions of various states, such as African Union, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Pakistan, the Independen­t Permanent Human Rights Commission of OIC and Sovereign Order of Malta. The Geneva Centre sought to build alliances and a joint dialogue to address issues related to the promotion of human rights in 2017 as well as cooperatio­n with internatio­nal organisati­ons such as IBE-Unesco, Internatio­nal Catholic Migration Commision, Unesco-Geneva liasion office and Unions des Nations pour l’Enseigneme­nt, la Science Universell­e et les Droits de l’Homme.

The Geneva Centre for Human Rights and Global Dialogue presented various programmes and activities, such as enhancing global dialogue, directing research, raising awareness and capacity building. Among the most prominent issues of the centre’s agenda are interfaith dialogue, Islamophob­ia, rise of religious extremism, rejection of racism and discrimina­tion, human rights situation of Muslims of Myanmar and other minorities, refugees and migrants, women’s rights in the Arab world, education and equal citizenshi­p rights.

Dr Hanif Hassan Al Qasim, chairman of the centre, stated that the report gives precise details about the activities of the centre during 2017, considerin­g that granting United Nations Economic and Social Council a special consultati­ve status to the Geneva Centre for Human Rights and the World Dialogue is another achievemen­t for the centre. Since its establishm­ent in 2013 as a non-government­al or non-profit organisati­on, it has been seeking to organise research and training activities in the field of human rights and promote human dialogue to raise the level of profession­alism in the performanc­e of specialise­d workers in this field, as well as the introducti­on of modern concepts to promote the culture of human rights in societies.
