1,500 non-Persian detainees face torture

- Staff Report

dubai — Thousands of peaceful Iranian protesters have been apprehended by the Iranian authorities following an uprising against the clerical regime.

According to the Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights, the founding member of the Global Campaign to Support the Revolution of the non-Persian people in Iran, over 1,500 Ahwazi have been detained.

Ahwazi activists expressed fears that the Iranian authorities might subject the non-Persian detainees to excessive torture. The activists also expressed concerns over the unjust trials of the Ahwzi which might even result in death penalty.

Executive Director of the Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights and Head of the Global Campaign to Support the Revolution of the Non-Persian people in Iran, Dr Faisal Abu Khalid Al Ahwazi, confirmed to Khaleej Times that the Iranian authorities had detained a great number of Ahwazi people following the recent protests.

He added that the Ahwaz detaineees were being kept in small rooms as their prisons did not have enough space to accommodate the new prisoners.

“In the name of the global campaign to Support the Revolution of the Non-Persian people in Iran, I appeal to the international institutions and those concerned with human rights and the 37th session of Human Rights Council to intervene quickly to prevent commission of massacres against the detainees. The Iranian authorities have a black record on killing people through torture and sending them to death without fair trials,” he said.

The international campaign to support the Non-Persian People’s Revolution in Iran includes: 1. The Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights 2. The Balushi Observatory for Human Rights 3. The Gulf European Centre for Human Rights 4. The Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society 5. The Universal Message of Human Rights Organisation 6.
