abu dhabi — A total of 1,507 Emiratis and expats from various nationalities in Abu Dhabi graduated as community police officers on Sunday, as part of the ‘We Are All Police’ initiative.

Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, said a whopping 10,645 members from the community registered to become community police officers.

Even royals joined the initiative, including Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, who has received Membership No.7 of the ‘We Are All Police’ initiative from Major General Al Rumaithi, in October last year.

The initiative, which was launched by the Commanderin-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police back in September 2016, allows Emiratis and expats to be trained to become community police officers.

Major General Al Rumaithi stressed that maintaining safety and security is key, which is why it is up to all members of the society to contribute and share responsibilities. “This is an essential pillar of sustainable development.”

The ‘We Are All Police,’ is one of the many prominent strategies launched by Abu Dhabi Police to maintain security, despite a rapidly growing city, which is home to more than 200 nationalities.

Last year, Abu Dhabi Police officials told Khaleej Times that the initiative was inspired by the principles of the Abu Dhabi 2030 vision, and allows for the collective participation of the communities in all matters related to security and raises awareness on social responsibility.

“With the rise of residential communities, police officers concern of security also increases, we therefore want to insure that we’re devoting the collective participation of the communities in all matters related to security,” he said.

The initiative also includes various programmes to help raise the level of awareness on the individual’s responsibility of insuring they too play a crucial role in reporting and preventing crime.
