Tourist rescued from Jebel Jais

ras al khaimah — A rescue team from the Ministry of Interior airlifted out a tourist who was injured in Jebel Jais, to the hospital.

The European tourist was trekking the highest peak in the country, over 1,910m above sea level, when he fell off the side of the mountain.

After being alerted about the incident, the MoI rescue helicopter found the victim in a rough area of the RAK mountain.

Lt Colonel Pilot Salim Bin Youkha, head of MoI’s Air Operations Section, stated that the man was admitted to the intensive care unit at Saqr Hospital last Friday. “The tourist’s condition is reported to be stable.” Authoritie­s urge all tourists and visitors to take safety and precaution­ary measures while trekking at Jebel Jais. Lt-Col Bin Youkha also warned climbers to carry special equipment and wear protective clothing, and to be accompanie­d by a qualified trainer.

Major Tariq Al Sharhan, head of the ambulance and rescue section at the RAK police, told Khaleej Times that they dispatched two special rescue vehicles with four rescuers onboard to the rough mountainou­s site, which is not easily reachable by regular vehicles.

Wing Commander Saeed Rashid Al Yamahi, head of the Air Wing Section, said all mountain visitors are urged to be highly cautious and take all possible safety precaution­s.
