Sharjah garden competition to promote green aesthetics
sharjah — The Sharjah Municipality has launched the 15th edition of a contest for the best homes and school gardens in the emirate.
With entries opening on January 30, Thabit Al Turaifi, director-general of the Sharjah Municipality, said the contest encourages residents to build and beautify their gardens, which “enhances the aesthetic and urban beauty of the emirate”. Home and school gardens have “significantly increased” the green areas of Sharjah, he noted.
The emirate currently has 16 million square metres of green areas. Al Taraifi confirmed that the competition’s previous session succeeded in attracting wide participation from all segments of society, opening up new ideas and the development of unconventional and innovative landscaping and decoration.
The competition is also promoting positive competition among residents, encouraging them to use scientific and technical methods in irrigation, agriculture, water supply, energy conservation and solar energy, while equipping the gardens with safety and security features. The competition categories and criteria are reviewed and revised constantly for this purpose and also to encourage participants and get them to use state-of-theart technologies.
