-

beijing — The first batch of Pakistani students who have recently completed the two-year Chinese language course in a Chinese university, anticipates good employment opportunities in the ongoing development projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The batch, comprising 66 students selected on merit under the Punjab Government’s Scholarship Programme, graduated from the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) last week.

Malik Usama Hamid, a student from Sharaqpur who has completed the Chinese language course, said on Sunday wanted to become a Chinese language teacher. “I want to learn and teach Chinese language to further promote the deep-rooted friendship between our two countries.”

Another student from Jhelum district, Asma Raja, said: “I hope Chinese language skills will greatly benefit my future plans.”

She maintained that now the Chinese has become the second international language after English, adding: “I anticipate a lot of opportunities under CPEC after returning to homeland.”

Tanzeela, hailing from Pakpattan, said during her studies she had the opportunity of meeting Chinese people and observing their culture from close quarters. She said she would use her language skills to bring closer the people of two friendly nations.

This course will not only have economic benefits but will also promote education and cultural exchanges between the two peoples.

The number of students was increasing with the passage of time because of growing job opportunities for Pakistanis who can also speak Chinese in CPEC-related projects.

Another student said while he is interested in learning different languages, “choosing Chinese language was aimed at starting my own import and export business”.

Terming the graduating students a useful asset for both Pakistan and China, Pakistan Ambassador to China Masood Khalid expressed the confidence that these students would play a role in further promoting the bilateral cooperation between the two countries not only in education sector but also in the context of CPEC.
