Sharjah archers shine in Arab sports event

sharjah — Sharjah Sports Club’s Sumaiya Al Mansouri won the individual archery gold medal after defeating Al Bahrain’s Sarah Marzouq with a score of 6-4 at the Arab Women’s Sports Tournament on Thursday, a press release said.

Sharjah Sports Club’s Noura Haroun won a bronze after winning the playoff competitio­n for third place, putting them on top of the event’s medals table.

Sharjah achieved a podium finish in the team event as well as they took the silver after being edged out by Al Bahrain Club 5-4. The bronze medal went to Al Ain Club, featuring sisters Alia and Ghalia Al Beloushi and Duha Ahmad Al Shamisi.

Meanwhile, Jordan’s Al Fuhays Club cemented their spot at the top of the basketball table with a huge 36-point win over Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah United. The fourth round of the competitio­n was a showpiece for the Jordanians who notched up a 96-60 win.

For Bahrain’s Al Mawaheb, who are still undefeated in the event, it proved much more of a challenge against Al Fatat although they made sure of their second place with a 76-66 victory.

In volleyball, Oman’s Sahar Club won a hard-fought match against Al Fatat club of Kuwait 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-18 26-24).

In the second match of the day, the UAE’s Al Wasl overcame the challenges of Morocco’s El Difaa Al Hassani in an epic clash. Al Wasl won the unforgetta­ble encounter 25-20, 18-25, 25-13 30-28.
