Dubai is a pioneer in tech governance

-

Dubai’s model of growth is worthy of praise and emulation. Only a decade ago, the metropolis made heads turn with its superlative architecture, defined by its glistening skyline along with the rise of the world’s tallest tower. Today the emirate is largely known for its towering vision. It is not just concentrating on the now, but has their eyes set on the future. There is a grand plan to ensure a sustainable, green and technologically driven future; a vision to make life more convenient for its people; a vision that aims to bring the best out of its people through innovation and spirit of entrepreneurship. It is here that ideas are being incubated and successful experiments with technology increasingly being integrated into-daily life. Consequently, the wider adoption of technology is altering lives for the better. Introduction of better health facilities, tele-medicine, driverless metros, smart and seamless e-services by the government departments, ongoing experiments for autonomous vehicles show technology has become a backbone of government operations. And the fact that we have the world’s first minister of artificial intelligence underscores this sci-fi fact. As reported on Sunday, Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State of Artificial Intelligence, believes it won’t be long before technology is used to provide tailor-made services to people.

It is not the stuff of dreams anymore as Dubai and the UAE on the whole have achieved roaring success in many fields, and plans are afoot for many more spectacular projects. World leaders concur and look up to Dubai as a model city. “Dubai is a miracle city that has transformed from a desert to a futuristic metropolis,” said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the World Government Summit. Modi also pointed that the future of humanity should not be to struggle with nature. He spoke about the six ‘R’s of sustainable governance: reduce, reuse, recycle, recover, remanufacture, redesign — which will “eventually bring rejoice”. Dubai and the UAE have been early movers in this space. The UAE has charted a new path in a sense, a pioneer of 24/7 governance, which puts people and the ease of doing business first.
