-

sharjah — The UAE’s Al Wasl Club chalked out a convincing 3-0 victory over Kuwait’s Al Fatat Club in the volleyball match at the Arab Women’s Sports Tournament 2018 (AWST).

Contrary to all expectations, Al Fatat were anything but an easy opponent. They played fiercely despite the fact that they were already out of the tournament, after losing to Sharjah Women’s Sports Club on Thursday. Playing like pros, they levelled the score four times; 5-5, 7-7, 8-8 and 9-9, which pushed the Al Wasl coach, Yosriya Shujaie, to request a time-out.

In athletics, Bahrain’s Busaiteen Club claimed a rich haul of 11 medals to be crowned overall champions. Top athletes representing various clubs from 11 Arab countries competed at the Al Thiqa Club.

Busaiteen Club won six golds, one silver and four bronze while Algeria’s National Security Sports Association finished second with a tally of 10 medals, including four gold and six silver. Oman’s Al Khabour Club secured the third place with a tally of five medals, one gold, two silver and two bronze.

In the basketball competition, Egypt outclassed KSA’s Jeddah United 108-68 to move to the top of the table.
