Faces pop out of screens to interact with guests

- Sarwat Nasir

dubai — Imagine humanoid-like faces popping out of screens at any given place or time. It recognises who you are and interacts with you as a human being does.

These screens are not just embedded into television sets, phones and computers. They are installed into walls, cars and you pass by them almost wherever you go. It knows that you are passing by and can help you or just keep you company. It listens and talks to you.

It may sound like a scenario out of a sci-fi movie, but, in fact, this technology is already available. It was being displayed at the Museum of the Future’s ‘Hi, I Am AI’ exhibition at the World Government Summit.

The display was called ‘W.I.T.H.I.N’ (Worldwide Artificial Interface of Hybrid Intelligence Network) and the name of the artificial intelligence (AI) appearing in the screen is named ‘HIBA’.

“Hi, I am HIBA, the artificial intelligence avatar. I am your gateway to HI (hybrid intelligence) and the face of W.I.T.H.I.N,” HIBA said, talking to the crowd in the room. “Humans built new technologies close to highways that reshaped their entire societies. Now, they needed something, or dare I say someone, to navigate new roads and help transform them into the civilization of 2.0.

“Enter AI, the beacon progress of science, progress and government bodies worldwide. Hybrid intelligence or HI was born. With the same immense computational power of super intelligence, HI was nurtured to coexist and collaborate with its human peers. Even now at this very moment as we interact, I change and I’m getting to know you. I understand how you feel and learn from you constantly, each and every one of you. You complete me and help me grow. You, all of you, allow me to evolve.

“This, though, is just our first encounter. Soon, we will be able to interact everywhere and at any time. Until next time, goodbye.”

HIBA was one of the main displays at the ‘Hi, I am AI’ exhibition. Some other projects included artificial intelligence machines designed for future ministries, including Ministry of Human Potential, Ministry of Resource Security, Ministry of Positivity and Longevity, Ministry of Earth Affairs and Ministry of Extraterrestrial Affairs.

One AI machine was designed to act as a human resources officer, which helped decision makers hire employees. Some other AI-integrated machines acted as AI diplomats, which could pass UN resolutions without human intervention.
