Mavericks, Roaring Lions storm into final

dubai — Mideast Metals deprived Dubai Mammoths of a place in the final of the 3rd DCC Silver Challenge Cricket Tournament after they handed them a 27 run defeat in the last league match of the tournament which is being played with the pink ball under floodlight­s at the Dubai Sports City.

In another match Rowdy XI did the same to deny Farooq CC of an outside chance of making the final – Rowdy XI came home winners by 17 runs.

The final will now be played between Mavericks and Roaring Lions.

Dubai Mammoths, with four points, needed to beat Mideast Metals by a substantia­l margin in order to topple Mavericks CC, who were on six points, from the second spot. Roaring Lion with seven points had already booked their passage to the final.

Mammoths did well in restrictin­g Mideast to 149 for 8 from their allotted 25 overs. Shajil Balan struck three vital blows while Ambey Parwatkar, Shiva Pagarani, Prashanth Shetty and Lucky Abbas chipped in with a wicket each. For Mideast Ali Anwar (41), Mohammed Farooq (38 not out) and Ahmed Zaidi (24) were the main contributo­rs.

Rowdy Xi beat Farooq CC by 17 runs Rowdy XI 166 for 6 in 25 overs (Kunal Jain 73 n.o., Humayun Bajaj 22; Fahad Ali Hashmi 2-16) Farooq CC 149 all out in 24.4 overs (Qais Farooq 37, Rishak Janaswami 31; Salman Khan 2-23, Anshul Siruya 2-15). Man of the match: Kunal Jain.
