ONCE A READER, NOW AN ACADEMIC MENTOR

-

Anushka Chugani, an academic mentor and education management professional, credits the magazine for her first steps into the field. “My passion for reading began with

YT. It led me to pursue a degree in language and literature, and build a career in education,” she says. She goes on to compare the magazine with the Internet; a means of learning and entertainment for the youngsters today. “Young Times is the equivalent for me — it has inspired, empowered, entertained, and transported me into other worlds through its colourful pages, stories, and characters.” She shares how elements such as

Read Aloud, Bookshelf, and Slylock Fox, used to encourage them (her friends and herself) to think outside the box. “I hope Young Times today urges its young readers to think beyond the screen,” she adds. In it’s current version, the thrill has been captured in sections like Otto’s

Art Corner, Creative Corner, and Fun Times. “I am so happy to hear that the magazine is back — it truly is a great initiative to engage today’s youth,” she says. Anushka recalls a precious memory (pic above) of the time when her father was interviewed in the Young Reporter section of the magazine.

“I wasn’t featured in the magazine, but my dad was in it a couple of times. He first introduced me to reading the newspaper and then to the magazine, and this instilled in me the continual habit of learning and reading,” she shares.
