RTA launches initiatives to help the deprived
dubai — Old uniforms of parking attendants, bus drivers, taxi drivers and technical staff of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will be sorted out, repaired, pressed and distributed to the needy and deprived, the RTA announced.
The initiative, called ‘Kiswat Khair’ (fine clothing in Arabic), is part of RTA’s support for the ‘Day for Dubai’ campaign launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.
“Volunteers will sort out, adjust and repair the uniforms and press them to make them presentable in style matching the humanitarian objective. They will be distributed in collaboration with Red Crescent societies, and other concerned parties, to the needy and deprived people inside or outside the RTA,” said Moaza Al Marri, director of marketing and corporate communication at RTA’s corporate administrative support services sector.
Two more initiatives were launched by the RTA in line with the ‘Day for Dubai’ campaign.
“The second initiative is related to establishing a library for audio books in collaboration with a host of publishing houses and a bunch of authors. The purpose is to provide selected books befitting the national policy of supporting people of determination in knowledge and cultural fields,” Al Marri said.
The third initiative is the expansion of the ‘Meals-onWheels’ initiative that was launched in Ramadan since 2011 for the distribution of daily Iftar meals in two or three districts during the month of Ramadan in collaboration with Bait Al Khair. Al Marri added that the RTA is also looking into improving its strategies in coordinating with public and private sectors to broaden the scope of its volunteering efforts.
