Woman resists being handcuffed, jailed

- Marie Nammour

dubai — A receptionist, who resisted women cops during her arrest and caused handcuff to hit an officer’s head, has been sentenced to three months in jail.

The 25-year-old Moroccan woman has been found guilty by the Court of First Instance of physically assaulting and resisting two on-duty cops as they tried to handcuff her on October 4, 2017.

The court also convicted her of issuing threats to police officers and ordered her deportation upon completion of the jail term.

The receptionist threatened the women cops and their colleagues at Al Qusais police station that she had connections in Abu Dhabi, telling them “the police officers will see…”

“I was on duty at 3pm at the police station when I was told about the accused, who had just been brought from the General Directorate of Criminal Evidence and was resisting cops trying to make her enter the centre’s detention,” said the 34-year-old police sergeant, who was assaulted by the defendant.

She was sitting on the floor and yelling. I tried to persuade her into going inside but she kept saying that she knew someone influential in Abu Dhabi and we would see.” police sergeant, 34-yr-old

“I went with a colleague to where she was — near the detainees’ transportation vehicle. She was sitting on the floor and yelling. I tried to persuade her into going inside but she kept saying that she knew someone influential in Abu Dhabi and we would see. Another policewoman was called and as we were trying to handcuff her, she resisted so fiercely that the handcuff hit me on the head.”

The police sergeant told the prosecutor she was left with head bruises and arm and leg pain.

The reason why the receptionist had been brought to the police detention centre was not mentioned in public prosecution records.
