RAK cops nab 19 druggies in 1 month
ras al khaimah — In one month, 19 drug abusers and traffickers of different nationalities and age groups were nabbed in Ras Al Khaimah, according to officials.
Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commanderin-Chief of the RAK Police, said the suspects have been arrested as part of the intensive inspection campaigns launched across the emirate in January this year.
“The 19 suspects were detained in 18 separate inspections in collaboration with the anti-narcotics departments of various emirates.”
Col Adnan Ali Al Zaabi, director of the department, RAK Police, said: “Though our special sources told us about the hideouts of these suspects, they were not aware of their secret channels of communications.”
Several teams were formed and a plan was set to collect the information and evidence needed, and closely track down all the suspects, he added.
“All the drug abusers and dealers were caught red-handed with different quantity and types of narcotics, following which they were referred to the RAK public prosecution for legal action.”
Dr Roua Abdulalim told Khaleej Times that the effects of drug abuse vary from one person to another, but most abusers suffer short and long term symptoms.
He added: “Narcotics can affect a person’s thinking, mood, energy level, perception, motor functioning and decision-making abilities. Addicts experience significant impairment in their lives, besides different types of cancer weak immune system and suicidal tendency.”
