dubai — A construction worker has been charged in a Dubai court with sexually assaulting another man, taking advantage of his drunkennes at the time.

Public prosecution records show the 29-year-old Pakistani man found the Indian man under the influence of alcohol and he seized the opportunity to take him to his labour accommodation in Jebel Ali industrial area, where he sexually assaulted him.

The incident allegedly took place on November 17 last year.

While the defendant has been charged in the Court of First Instance with sexual assault, the complainant has been referred to the Court of Misdemeanors on the charge of consuming alcohol without a licence.

The complainant, 24, said he was walking back to his labour accommodation in the Jebel Ali industrial area after 10pm. “I was drunk and was walking when the accused offered to walk me to my accommodation. I agreed, but then he took me to another accommodation. There, he forced me into a room and sexually assaulted me,” the worker said.

He told the prosecutor that he tried to seek help from the workers there but to no avail, adding that the accused used physical force on him. “When I opened the door, I saw three other Pakistani men standing there. I asked him (the construction worker) to let me go to the washroom. That is how I escaped and I went to my accommodation where I informed the supervisor and then the police.” A report from the General Directorate of Criminal Evidence confirmed the complainant was sexually assaulted by the accused. The trial has been adjourned to March 14.
