dubai — The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has closed the three fast lanes of the Emirates Road between Bridge-7 and Al Badea Intersection for necessary road works.

The traffic flow in the direction to Dubai has been moved from the left lanes to the right ones, according to Ahmed Al Hammadi, manager of roads department at the ministry.

“The partial closure of the road will continue until May 22,” he said, urging drivers to be extra cautious and attentive on the road.

The move is in line with the ministry’s efforts to cope with the latest international practices in road projects, he added. “These will end in a quantum leap in the process of development nationwide.”

Some 80 per cent of the major project, worth Dh200 million, have been completed, while the project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of next year 2018, he disclosed.

“The new bridge will further attract the traffic flow from the northern and eastern emirates heading to the emirates of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.”

“The project will significantly boost the capacity of the road from 9,900 to 17,700 vehicles per hour in all directions; 7,800 more vehicles.”

The bridge will connect the Emirates Road and Sharjah-Mleiha road. “It shall be a critical traffic bridge being one of the major five crossways between the emirates of Dubai and Sharjah.”

The extensive capacity of the bridge gives it more importance due to the several lanes of it, he added. “The bridge consists of six lanes on the Emirates Road and three lanes on the Sharjah-Mleiha road.”

The bridge will also reduce the trip time and ease the traffic congestions for those heading from Dubai to Sharjah and northern emirates in the evening, he stated. “The slow movement of the trucks on the road in the direction Dubai to Sharjah affects its traffic flow and its capacity which is only 800 vehicles per hour, but this will be history with the new bridge.”
