dubai — A Bangladeshi worker has gone on trial on the charge of sexually harassing a teen student inside an elevator.

The 28-year-old man allegedly pinched the 13-year-old Jordanian girl’s cheek and chin, touched her hair and kissed her on the cheek.

He denied a molestation charge in the Court of First Instance. The complaint was filed on January 28 at Bur Dubai police station.

The girl said she had just come back from school at 3pm when she took the elevator.

“An Asian man walked inside the elevator with me. I was going to the 13th floor while he wanted to go to the 12th floor. But he did not step out there and pressed on 15 instead.”

The girl recounted how he said sorry and then pinched her cheek several times, touched her hair and then kissed her on her left cheek.

“When I pushed him, he stepped away from me and looked down. I went to my mother and told her.”

The family then waited for the father to come to call the police. The police checked the CCTV cameras inside the building.

The girl’s parents took her to the police station later that day where she identified the accused among other suspects.

The girl’s father, a 51-year-old Jordanian engineer, said there is a company at the 12th floor and its manager told him the accused worked with them.

A ruling will be issued on March 12.
