Diplomats’ wives interact with determined ones

dubai — As part of celebrating the Year of Zayed, members of the Diplomatic Ladies Group (DLG)-Dubai interacted with students of Rashid Centre for the Determined Ones “to promote peace, tolerance, acceptance of various cultures and enhancing social integration.”
Various activities were lined up on Tuesday, including an interactive painting of the portrait of the UAE’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, by students of Rashid Centre and wives of the consul generals and heads of diplomatic posts based in Dubai.
“This activity is part of our year-long celebration of the Year of Zayed. We are concluding February by highlighting the role of Sheikh Zayed in establishing peace, renouncing violence, and deepening the bond among different cultures, beliefs and religions in the UAE,” Mariam Othman, co-founder and director of the Rashid Centre for the Determined Ones, told Khaleej Times.
“It’s like we are bringing various countries here at Rashid Centre and promoting global peace by inviting the spouses of the consul generals. Last week, we also visited the embassies of Canada, Germany and Thailand and are visiting the US diplomatic mission on Tuesday.”
The diplomatic ladies group, established 15 years ago, is a group of spouses of the consul generals and heads of diplomatic posts based in Dubai.
Present at the Rashid Centre for the Determined Ones on Tuesday were DLG president Abeer Shocair, wife of Dr Sa’ed Radaideh, consul general of Jordan; Yasmin Balajadia-Cortes, DLG vice president and wife of Philippine consul-general Paul Raymund Cortes; Eleni Menegatos, wife of Canadian CG; Clemence Jacqueri (New Zealand); Jenny Arsaf (Indonesia); Matsumi Umezawa (Japan); Ruvani Dissana (Sri Lanka); Tengku Yubazlan (Malaysia); Corinne Abed (France) and Shifa Ahmad Katin (Oman).
“We were so delighted to spend time with the children because those beautiful children are part of the society and can add a lot to the community,” Shocair said.
Dedicated room
Dubai-based real estate developer Azizi Developments has pledged long-term support to Rashid Centre by sponsoring a room dedicated for students with cerebral palsy, a disorder that affects muscle tone, movement, and motor skills or the ability to move in a coordinated and purposeful way.
Mirwais Azizi, chairman of Azizi Group said: “We believe initiatives like these will go a long way in empowering people with determination to become global citizens of tomorrow.”
