Egyptians skipping military can pay fine here

- Ahmed Shaaban

dubai — UAE-based Egyptian youth, who could not appear in person for mandatory military service back home, can settle it after paying a fine.

Wael Gad, Ambassador of Egypt to the UAE, has announced that a military committee of the Armed Forces will be available at the embassy in Abu Dhabi from March 9-21 to handle the settlement.

“All young people, who fail to do military service till the age of 30, are urged to take the opportunity and settle their mandatory national service.”

The move is in line with the Egyptian bodies’ passion to remain in touch with all the members of the Egyptian community abroad, he added.

“The committee shall be ready at the office of the military attaché in Abu Dhabi for receiving applicants from 9am to 5pm, including Fridays and Saturdays.”

A certificate shall be issued to prove the settlement reached, he added. “However, this can only be issued after making full payment of fines.”

Those who are aged below 30, but still exempted from performing national service by law for being the only son in the family, may also approach the committee to have their military position cleared.

Gad said the office of the Egyptian military attaché can be contacted on telephone No 024473205 to know about all the documents required and necessary procedures.

“The committee is fully authorised to issue an ultimate exemption from the military service for those who are the only sons of their families on condition that they prove the same with verified certificates.”

The committee shall also be available to attend to all inquiries, he added. ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
