Zayed Painting Contest launched to celebrate the ‘Year of Zayed’

dubai — The Zayed Painting Contest aims to strengthen the objectives of The Year of Zayed foundation.

Today, the values of the late inspiratio­nal world leader, whose aim was to educate and create greater awareness, are being relived through The Year of Zayed. 2018 is a definite highlight in the UAE’s history and with the launch of this painting contest, the life, legacy and values of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan will continue to make an impression on the country’s students.

To mark 100 years since the birth of the country’s founding father, the competitio­n aims to gather participan­ts from 100 schools all over the country. These include 50 schools in Dubai, 20 in Abu Dhabi, 10 in Sharjah, 5 schools each from Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and Ajman.

The competitio­n is being supported by Emirates Global Aluminum along with Union Coop as Platinum Sponsor. More organisati­ons will soon come on board to support this initiative. Khalid Buhumaid, senior vicepresid­ent, Government Relations at Emirates Global Aluminium, said: “The legacy left by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan continues to inspire the people of the UAE. It is thanks to his vision that companies like EGA enjoy the success that they do today. At EGA, we strive to embrace the values Sheikh Zayed held dear during his lifetime and believe that this contest is a unique way to commemorat­e the father and the founder of the UAE among the new generation.”

Khalid Humaid bin Diban Al Falasi, CEO of Union Coop, said that “Sheikh Zayed is not only a respectabl­e figure, but a noble mindset that unites all of us. Being a part of this unique event that pays homage to the ideologies of late Sheikh Zayed, is an absolute honour. As the platinum sponsor of this event, we would like to congratula­te all the participan­ts and their respective schools.”

The winning artworks from 100 schools will be displayed in an art exhibition for 12 days to promote and showcase the talents of the young Picasso and Michelange­lo’s of our modern era. The first 6 days of the art exhibition will be hosted in Abu Dhabi’s The Galleria from March 18 to 23. Followed by another 6 days of art exhibit at The Outlet Village in Dubai from March 25 to 30.

A grand awarding ceremony will be held after the 12 days’ art exhibition on March 31. On this day, a special panel of judges will choose 3 winning masterpiec­es in ascending order. All winners will receive a cash prize and crystal plaque. There will also be a 10 finalist that will receive a special gift pack from the Zayed Painting Contest.
